Elmo's Mayo Clinic Experience - Dilated Cardiomyopathy & Heart Transplant

Elmo was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy in his late 20s. Though medication worked for a while, Elmo had a stroke and learned he would need a heart transplant. But first Elmo had a ventricular assist device (VAD) implanted while waiting for a heart transplant.

Though his quality of life suffered greatly at first, after his transplant, with the help of the cardiology and transplant teams at Mayo Clinic, Elmo went on to resume a normal and active quality of life, including growing his family, with the birth of two more children, launching his own construction firm and running athletic races.
