CANNON CARTS the artificial intelligence | Clash of Clans

"A cannon on wheels?! Wait, did it just turn into a mortar?? Bet they won't see that coming! Both powerful and versatile!"

The Cannon Cart is a ground troop that is a cannon on wheels. This troop is unlocked at Builder Barracks level 7, which requires Builder Hall level 5.
Cannon Carts have no preferred target when attacking; they will simply attack the closest building to them. However, once they become aware of enemy Guard Post troops or Zappies (either by being attacked themselves or being near another friendly troop under attack), they will leave their previously targeted building and engage the enemy troops instead. Once all of the nearby enemy troops are defeated, they will proceed to attack the nearest building from their current location.
The Cannon Cart has a Change Mode ability, which allows it to change between a mobile cannon cart (known as Cannon Mode), which deals damage from a moderate range, and a stationary Mortar (known as Mortar Mode). In Mortar Mode, the Cannon Cart will deal area damage at a longer range, but will fire more slowly and cannot move.
The Cannon Cart's range in Mortar Mode is displayed by a green ring whenever it is in its base Cannon mode, indicating the area that the Mortar Mode can fire upon if it changes to Mortar Mode at that instant.
The Cannon Cart in Mortar Mode will target anything it can hit in its range, except for Walls (it can damage walls if hitting a target near the wall). If there are no such targets, a red question mark ("?") will appear above it, indicating it cannot attack.

Offensive
Try to place a tank, such as the Boxer Giant and the Battle Machine, to take shots for the Cannon Cart while the Cannon Cart wreaks havoc behind.
The Cannon Cart has a high damage output but relatively low hitpoints, which makes them vulnerable to the Multi Mortar, so try and spread your tank from the Cannon Carts so splash damage cannot hit both of them.
A good strategy is to use 2-3 Army Camps worth of Boxer Giants with the remainder being used for Cannon Carts. If the Battle Machine is available, you can use 2 Army Camps of Boxer Giants and 4 Army Camps of Cannon Carts. If it is upgrading, you can use 3 Army Camp of Boxer Giants and 3 Army Camps of Cannon Carts.
The Cannon Cart can shoot over two-tile gaps between Walls and a building, which many players do to prevent Sneaky Archers from shooting over.
The Cannon Cart can quickly destroy the Crusher and other key defensive buildings to make a path for Raged Barbarians and Boxer Giants, and possibly the Battle Machine.
In Mortar Mode, the Cannon Cart is able to outrange many short-range defenses, such as the Double Cannon, Roaster and Mega Tesla. This makes them excellent for clearing areas of a base defended only by such defenses. However, effective micro-management of the Cart is required to utilise this ability to its fullest potential, and due to the lower DPS of Mortar Mode, it can cause time fails.
It is possible for the Mortar Mode to outrange the Cannon, though the positioning is extremely precise. This is most easily done when attacking from a corner, since the hitbox of the Cannon is farthest from the Cannon's center (from which its range extends out from) at its corners.
Switching to Mortar Mode may be useful even if it is not being used to snipe a building. If it is obvious that the first stage of an attack will be cleared, keeping the Cannon Cart in Mortar mode can prevent it from destroying unimportant non-defensive buildings. Although it prevents the Cannon Cart from contributing to the attack, this is beneficial for two main reasons:
The Cannon Cart will not move into any Traps, preventing further damage to it and ensuring it starts stage two with as much health as possible.
Rechargeable abilities of the attacking Hero will be afforded more time to charge up; if the Hero is damaged, stalling the end of the stage will enable the Hero to use its ability at as high of a charge level as possible, maximising its health regeneration for stage two.

Defensive
Keep Crushers away from areas where Cannon Carts may be deployed. Its long range will render the Crusher useless, thus allowing Boxer Giants, Raged Barbarians and the like to easily swarm a good portion of the base.
