A realistic home server setup. Simple cooling, good monitoring and cloud resiliency.

I’ve been captivated by fantastic home server setups posted on Youtube for years. The elaborate racks with UPS, backup switches and basements for storing all of this equipment have made me very jealous. But it’s 2020 and with virtualization and affordable cloud hosting, there’s no need for someone like me who has complex computing requirements to have such heavy infrastructure at home any more. All I need is room for a hand full of virtual machines and when I’m hosting local services that have dependancies in the house, clustering to the cloud means I no longer need the home server to be on constantly. This video shows how I monitor the temperature and how I keep the equipment cool.
