US Drops 'Indo' From Indo-Pacific: A Sign of Multipolarity? | Dr. Ankit Shah

On June 17, the US reportedly removed "Indo" from the Indo-Pacific Command naming structure. Years ago, it was simply called the US Pacific Command, so nothing entirely new is happening. But the important point is that the word "Indo," which was added during Trump's first term, is now being removed.

Why does this matter?

It matters because, in my view, it signals a larger shift toward multipolarity.

I gave a prediction on March 11, 2021, that India and Israel would jointly play a leading role in regional security alongside regional partners.

Since then, India has already signed a defense pact with the UAE. And on June 15, 2026, Netanyahu himself stated that Israel is not America's servant and will take whatever decisions are necessary for its own national security.

So my interpretation is that both India and Israel want to retain greater command and influence over their respective regions.

I think this also connects to the de-dollarization process.

As the United States gradually reduces its direct footprint in the region, it becomes necessary to remove certain symbols and structures associated with its earlier strategic role.

My view is simple:

India should manage India's region in a multipolar world.

The US can remain a defense partner, participate in technology transfer, support joint manufacturing, and cooperate on strategic projects. But India, along with regional partners and the Indian Navy, should increasingly take responsibility for regional security.

That is why I believe the transition toward the post-2030 multipolar world requires a gradual reduction of American military presence and bases in the region.

India and Israel, according to my 2021 prediction, will increasingly take over regional responsibilities.

I also predicted on February 27 that once the Iran project concludes, many US bases, embassies, and related structures would eventually face downsizing and layoffs.

In my view, a vision of Akhand Bharat and a continued large American military presence in the same region cannot coexist indefinitely.

At some point, the United States would have to step back from the region while continuing to support partners through defense cooperation and technology partnerships.

That, in my opinion, is the most realistic path forward.

Many people are interpreting the headline differently because they are only looking at the removal of the word "Indo" from the title. But I believe the real story is the broader shift toward multipolarity. #Geopolitics #India #Israel #MultipolarWorld #IndoPacific
