I will show you how to check the expansion tank cap. The normal pressure in the cooling system of cars is 1.2-1.3 atmospheres, but it can vary from car to car.
There are only two types of expansion tank cap failure:
- No pressure, normal pressure in the engine cooling system should be between 1.1 and 1.4 atmospheres.
- Excessive pressure. When the plug holds more than 1.4 Atm, like 2.0 or even higher! It is also dangerous - you can remove hoses and pipes from the cooling system, break radiators (they are made with plastic walls now). This again can lead to system depressurization and overheating.
You can buy a new expansion tank cap, but there is no guarantee that it is of good quality and holds the right pressure in the cooling system.
