Testing and First Boot of a Soviet PDP-11 Clone Computer
Stay tuned for more bonus footage of our first time messing around with the system!
Back in 2017, we imported this Soviet Электроника ДВК-3 computer from Moscow to Texas. You've likely seen it working and playing Tetris in our other videos. This footage was recorded before any fun or games happened on the system, because of course we have to check its condition first! Here we read the schematic, test each of the output pins on the power supply for the correct voltage, try it on 60Hz rather than 50Hz, and then turn on the whole computer for the first time. I knew neither what to expect nor anything about PDP-11 computers, so more adventures (mostly in research) would be had after concluding this testing.
Material Sources:
1:07 - "Network" and "On" descriptions are from The Elektronika MS9002 passport document, pg. 29, paragraph 10.3.2.
