Today you are going to see a video showing hydrocephalic fetus. The liquid called cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is seen in and around the brain and spinal cord. If there is excessive CSF in our brain, this condition is known as hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus may also be called ventriculomegaly, which means big ventricles.
Fetal hydrocephalus often refers to an extension of fetal ventriculomegaly where the ventricular dilatation is more severe.
The fetal head may be large for dates due to the presence of increased volume of CSF as in this case the BPD shows higher fetal age as compared to the fetal age measured by fetal length and abdominal circumference.
The pressure of too much cerebrospinal fluid associated with hydrocephalus can damage brain tissues and cause a large spectrum of impairments in brain function.
