In this video, we shall be taking around the world presenting to you the top 10 biggest shopping malls in the world. A shopping mall or simply mall is a North American term for a large indoor shopping center, usually anchored by department stores. In the U.K., such complexes are considered shopping centers, though "shopping center" covers many more sizes and types of centers than the North American "mall". Malls are currently in severe decline "dead malls" or have closed. Successful exceptions have added entertainment and experiential features, added big-box stores as anchors, or converted to other specialized shopping center formats: power centers, lifestyle centers, factory outlet centers, and festival marketplaces.The International Council of Shopping Centers classifies two types of shopping centers as malls: regional malls and superregional malls.

The world's largest malls with over 500,000m2 of gross leasable area are in China, Thailand,Iran and The Philippines. These malls don’t only sell everything within one building but offer special services, aesthetics and experiences which make them special besides their sizes. Here’s a look at the top 10 largest shopping malls around the globe.

10. SM Megamall, Philippines – Area – 474.000m2
SM Megamall is currently the second largest shopping mall in the Philippines and the 10th largest in the world that is developed and operated by SM Prime Holdings. It is located in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong, Philippines. The mall occupies a land area of approximately 10 hectares and has a total floor area of 474,000m2 a maximum capacity of 4 million people.The mall has two main buildings, building A features the 12 digital cinemas on the third floor, a food court and Toy Kingdom on the lower ground floor and other anchor tenants. It also features Forever 21 located on the second level of Building A. Building B features The SM Store, Cyber zone on the fourth floor, The Mega Trade Hall on the fifth floor, and other anchor tenants. It has been expanded with the Mega Fashion Hall which opened in January 2014. The bridge way connecting the two main buildings of the mall contains several eateries.

9. Global Harbor (China) – Area – 480.000m2
Global Harbor is a large shopping mall in Shanghai, China which opened on 5 July 2013. The mall is located at 3300 North Zhongshan Road, near Jinshajiang Road, in the Putuo District of Shanghai. It is attached to Jinshajiang Road Station through an underground entrance. It has a floor area of 480,000m2. The shops are located on six levels two of them basement levels, with an underground parking level below. Twin skyscrapers rise above the mall, which can be seen through the glass roof. In the evening they are lit with computer-controlled animated multi-coloured lighting on the surface of the outer walls. East China Normal University is located close to the Global Harbor mall to the southwest and beyond that southwest is Changfeng Park.

8. SM City North EDSA (Philippines) – 497.213m2
SM City North EDSA is a large shopping mall located in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. It is the first SM Supermall in the country, the largest shopping mall in the Philippines and the eighth largest shopping mall in the world. The SM City North EDSA mall is operated by SM Prime Holdings. It used to have a gross floor area of 120,000m2 in the past when it was opened on November 8, 1985, a challenging period in the Philippines' political history with the EDSA Revolution just months away but its original structure has evolved through the years. The City Center now has a total of 190,000m2 gross floor area. Its fourth floor has recently been added to keep up with demand. The newly renovated city center has spherical skylights. As the hub of the retail complex, the City Center has various retail establishments, including the mall's main anchors: The SM Store and SM Supermarket. It is also the hub of leisure anchors such as SM Food court, an entertainment center, and a newly modernized Cineplex that incorporate the country's second IMAX Theatre. The main dining establishments of the City Center are situated on the second level where they break through the frontage in a sequence of linear casements which overlook the Sky Garden.

7. IconSiam (Thailand) – Area - 525.000m2
