Betaflight, INAV GPS modules - get more satellites and faster & short GPS modules overview
GPS modules are susceptible to active receiver and video transmitter. With those interferences it could take a long time to get just a GPS fix (4 satellites) and even longer for more satellites .
more satellites:
1.) just power the GPS module and everything else is off (rx,vtx,fc) - my prefered method
2.) turn off telemetry
3.) move the GPS module away from receivers, transmitters and antennas
To power only the GPS module I build an adapter cable with a small 5V out buck (step down) converter. This converter can handle 2-6S (7-26V). On the IN side I soldered a xt30 and xt60 male plug and on the OUT side SH1 connectors for different GPS modules.
- 5v buck converter 7-26v
- XT30 or XT60 male plug
- SH1 connector set
- heat shrink
With this adapter a GPS module gets a (hot start) fix in seconds. For more satellites (gt. 15) power the GPS module for a few minutes.
