Russia the victor after 'bizarre' Biden pipeline pivot

President Joe Biden has bulldozered over the policy originally put forward by his secretary of state after waiving sanctions on the Russian-owned company in charge of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

The reversal indicates a major shift in the Biden administration with the president and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken pivoting from opposing to supporting the natural gas pipeline.

Sky News host Rita Panahi said the decision was a “massive win” for Russia.

The move is at odds with a speech delivered by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at his confirmation hearing where he said he was committed to halting construction of the pipeline.

“I am determined to do whatever we can to prevent that completion of Nord Stream 2,” he said.
