Turkey's national cruise missile, Som-J, has achieved a historic achievement by successfully hitting a surface target in its first test-firing. Som-J, developed by Tubitak Sage and manufactured by Roketsan, is a high-precision, low-radar signature cruise missile designed for modern fighter aircraft. The test-firing was conducted from an F-16 fighter jet of the Turkish Air Force, confirming the missile's operational readiness in a real combat scenario. The missile successfully hit a surface target with a direct hit, demonstrating its superiority in navigation system and attack precision.

Turkey has long been developing a domestically-made cruise missile for its F-35 stealth fighter jets. However, it failed to procure the most expensive fighter jet after its delivery to Ankara was blocked by the United States. Having failed to procure the fifth-generation stealth fighter jet from Lockheed Martin, Ankara has decided to use the missile for its domestically-made fighter jets and drones.
