Hanle, Ladakh: India's first Dark Sky Reserve for astronomy

It's a tiny village far, far away from the rest of the world. But the people of #Hanle in #Ladakh are closer to the Universe than the rest of us. For hundreds of years, the stars have been their guiding force from the sky. Now, thanks to scientists at the Indian Astronomical Observatory, they have turned Astronomy Ambassadors, who will show travellers their way around the night sky. Home to one of the tallest observatories in the world, India's first #DarkSkyReserve is now official and ready for travellers.

It's cold and bare and 7 hours from Leh. But from March to October, it will give you the purest skies on Earth! Welcome to the Gateway to the Universe–Hanle.
