Day 7 of 90: Stop drawing curves. Start playing 20 Questions. 🎸🌳
Unlike Polynomial Regression which bends a smooth line, Decision Tree Regression completely abandons complex math equations. Instead, it chops your data into smaller and smaller buckets using harsh, straight-line slices.
Imagine you are trying to estimate a fair price for a used acoustic guitar:
🎸 Question 1: Is it less than 3 years old? (Yes ➡️ / No ⬅️)
🎸 Question 2: Does it have visible scratches? (Yes ➡️ / No ⬅️)
It keeps slicing until it creates distinct little buckets (like "1-2 years old, no scratches"). On a graph, this doesn't look like a curve at all—it looks like a blocky staircase! 🧱
When you want to predict a price, you just drop your data into the top of the tree, answer the questions, and see which bucket it lands in. The AI simply looks inside that bucket and calculates the average price of everything in there.
Simple, readable, and incredibly powerful.
But what happens if this one single tree makes a bad guess? 🤔
Tomorrow, we fix that with the Random Forest.
Drop a 🌳 in the comments if you prefer 20 Questions over heavy math!
Follow along for Day 7 of our 90-Day AI Challenge! 🚀
