Criminal probe to be launched into Ruby Princess debacle

A criminal investigation is set to be launched into the conduct of Carnival Australia around the Ruby Princess cruise ship and its docking in Sydney.

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell revealed NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller was last week given the task to look into the matter as a political blame game ensured over the responsibility of the ship.

It will now proceed to a criminal investigation.

Around 10 per cent of Australia’s confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been linked to an outbreak of the virus abord the embattled cruise ship.

The ship has since been the centre of a blame game after 2,700 passengers were permitted to disembark despite several passengers on board reporting flu-like symptoms.

Mr Clennell said he understood the phone calls between the ship and NSW Port Authority insisted there was no outbreak of the disease on board.

“Sky News is aware of tapes of phone calls from the ship to NSW Port Authorities in which the ship made it clear it did not believe there were cases of coronavirus on board before it was given permission to dock,” he said.
