Cool Unsafe Axe Technique for Small Wood Up to 2 inches
This technique is great for wood up to 2 inches in diameter. It is pretty fast and efficient. Probably faster than most hand saws and a lot funner. It is dangerous if you do it wrong of course, we're dealing with sharp things and applied force here. I show you how to do it safely and effectively and of course discuss some satellite topics.

cutting wood against a stump or log can be very effective. If done improperly it is dangerous and you could lose an eye even. The main points are that the wood has to be backed up before you hit it with the axe, try to never hit it above the area where it contacts the stump and cut at an angle. If not backed up, the stick will bounce instead of cutting easily and could fly back at your face. If you don't cut at an angle across the stick, it will not cut nearly as easily.
Don't try to use excessive force. It can help to strike hard, but excessive force will make your aim worse and will also compound both the likelihood and severity of accidents. concentrate on aim and technique, then gradually increase your power as you become used to the tool and the technique.
I stand more or less to one side to keep my body out of the way of the axe blade should it go somewhere other than where I'm planning. Also watch me gettin' freaky with a chicken at the end of this video.
