A powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, with tremors felt across the region and as far as Bangkok. The 7.7-magnitude quake hit near the city of Sagaing and was followed minutes later by a 6.4 aftershock, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake caused widespread destruction—flattening buildings, cracking roads, and collapsing bridges across Myanmar. Among the damaged sites was a 30-storey building under construction in Bangkok, Thailand, which crumbled to the ground within seconds.
