Customer came in with their Jeep Liberty with the brake pedal going to the floor and a fluid leak at the left front wheel. Once I got in the vehicle I knew I was going to be stopping this vehicle using the emergency brake unless I wanted to go thru the shop wall. Iwas hearing a strange sound as I was slowly pulling it into my bay which I hadn't heard before. Once up in the air and the wheel off....it all became clear as to all the noise and the problem. It appears that the customer had been driving the vehicle for a long time to the point that the inner and outer front brake pads were completely gone. When I mean gone....I mean no metal pad backing....nothing! The piston had been rubbing against the brake rotor long enough to actually seperate the rotor from the mounting flange. Then the piston over extended and brake fluid starting leaking. There comes a point when you hear a noise and have the vehicle checked out....then theres a point where you endanger your life and everyone elses on the road around you because of your neglect. At first I thought it was odd and a bbit funny to see it worn down so much but the more I thought about it the more my blood started to boil. As a driver, you have the responsibilty to keep your vehicle in a safe state of operation or dont drive it!
