ASUS ROG X570-E Gaming Motherboard LUKE'S DEEP DIVE! - 16 phase VRM Monster!

Edit 25/10/19: at 11:15 onwards, Luke discusses the motherboard VRM and power delivery. He has clarified further whether this is an 8-phase or 16-phase solution:

'you only get 8 true control phases. Asus is, however, using 16 phases' worth of electrical components (when measured via conventional measuring techniques that the industry has used for many years). So you get power capacity equivalent to 16 phases.

It's basically just a technicality on what people consider to be a 'phase'. Technically, a phase would be referring to the control phase from the PWM controller. However, they way that ASUS doubles up the electrical components per PWM phase, they're effectively giving double the power per phase (compared to a single-set predecessor). So it's technically 8 phases due to control but technically 16 phases (via all conventional methods the industry has used for phase counting for many, many years) due to electrical components.

Calling it 8 phase due to the PWM limitations and no doublers is perfectly reasonable. But it's an 8 phase with current capacity comparable to a 16 phase. So while 8 is reasonable, it's selling the board short. And 16 is also reasonable, but masks over the control which is 'only' 8 phases.

Both arguments are correct, in my eyes. It's 8 control signals from the PWM controller. It's 16-sets of PowIR stages and inductors. The capacity is comparable to 16 phases of current capability. The control dynamics are similar to 8 phases of PWM control capability.'
