How We Installed New Gray and Black Water Holding Tanks on Silver Streak Travel Trailer Renovation

Welcome to video 3 of our Silver Streak Rebuild series! In this video, we will be installing holding tanks for our black and gray water onto the trailer frame. The tanks that originally came with our travel trailer were very small and not worth reusing, so we upgrade with new, large tanks and ABS plastic plumbing. We bought our 1982 Silver Streak trailer with the intent of making it into our dream tiny home. A Silver Streak trailer is an aluminum "canned ham" camper similar to an Airstream, Streamline, or Spartan. Little did we know that this would be a complete travel trailer renovation and be a top-off rebuild, meaning we had to completely separate the top shell from the steel trailer frame. While many would see this as a fail and scrap the junker at the metal yard, we saw a travel trailer remodel and rebuild as the perfect challenge. Join us as we learn the ins-and-outs of rebuilding and living in a vintage travel trailer. We began this rebuild in 2018 and have since bought a cabin the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our plans now are to use our Silver Streak as a guest house and AirBNB rental.
In our last video, we shared with you our Silver Streak travel trailer purchase, and how our dreams were dashed by the realization that it was in worse shape than we thought. The subfloor was not only rotted throughout, but the steel trailer the entire camper sits on had terrible structural rust that would need to be repaired. The only way to remove the old plywood subfloor completely and to access the frame was to do a top-off rebuild. After removing the entire aluminum shell off of the trailer, we began the process of sanding and repairing the metal. In this video, we tackle the challenge of installing a new black tank and gray tank on our travel trailer rebuild.
