एक बार हनुमान जी केले खा रहे थे, तभी शनि देव प्रकट हो गए और हनुमान जी से बोले, "अब आपके मज़े के दिन गए, क्योंकि मैं आप पर साढ़ेसाती डालने वाला हूँ।" हनुमान जी बोले, "आप मुझे पर वक्र दृष्टि डालने का प्रयास भी मत करना, क्योंकि मेरे रोम-रोम में श्री राम का वास है।" इस पर शनि देव अपने घमंड में बोले, "तुम्हें मेरे साढ़ेसाती के प्रकोप का ज्ञान नहीं है। साढ़ेसाती के ढाई वर्ष मैं व्यक्ति के पैरों में रहता हूँ, उसे भटकाता हूँ, फिर अगले ढाई वर्ष उसकी बुद्धि भ्रष्ट कर देता हूँ, और अंत में ढाई वर्ष उसकी जीभ पर रहकर उसे बुरा बोलने पर मजबूर करता हूँ।"

इतना कहकर शनि देव हनुमान जी के सिर पर बैठ गए। इससे हनुमान जी के सिर में खुजली होने लगी। तब हनुमान जी ने बड़े-बड़े पत्थर उठाकर अपने सिर पर रखने शुरू कर दिए। यह देखकर शनि देव बोले, "यह क्या कर रहे हो? अगर तुम्हें खुजली हो रही है, तो तेल लगा लो।" हनुमान जी बोले, "मुझे तो यही उपाय भाता है।" और उन्होंने और बड़े पत्थर अपने सिर पर रख दिए। पत्थरों के बोझ से शनि देव परेशान हो गए और अंत में उन्होंने हार मानकर हनुमान जी से क्षमा याचना की। तब हनुमान जी ने उन्हें छोड़ दिया और कहा, "जो भी मनुष्य मेरी आराधना करेगा, तुम उस पर वक्र दृष्टि नहीं डालोगे।"

For the first two and a half years, I reside in a person’s legs and make them wander, then in the next two and a half years, I corrupt their mind, and in the final two and a half years, I stay in their tongue, forcing them to speak ill."

Saying this, Shani Dev sat on Hanuman Ji’s head, causing Hanuman Ji to feel an itch on his head. To relieve it, Hanuman Ji started placing large stones on his head. Seeing this, Shani Dev said, "What are you doing? If you have an itch, apply some oil." Hanuman Ji replied, "I prefer this method," and continued placing larger stones on his head. Under the weight of the stones, Shani Dev became distressed and eventually apologized to Hanuman Ji. Hanuman Ji then released him and said, "You shall not cast your gaze on anyone who worships me."
