2017 Lone Star Land Steward: Harris Ranch

When John Sewell took over management of the Harris Ranch in Uvalde and McKinney counties 20 years ago, it was difficult to find a Rio Grande Wild Turkey. The 17,000 acres had been severely overgrazed to the point that grass was minimal and forbes for deer were all but gone. Today, turkey and deer hunting are the primary source of income for the ranch along with honey bees helping to pollinate plant species and create more ground cover. Not to mention that honey makes a pretty good gift.
