Welcome to the first episode in my ultimate guide to training for a trail marathon or 50k race. What do you need to consider when choosing a trail marathon or 50k ultra marathon race? There are so many factors to consider before you register - I explain the key things to think about before you do!

In this trail marathon and 50k training plan I share advice on how to choose your target trail marathon or 50k race, create a personalized trail marathon / 50k training plan and schedule based on your chosen race, choose the best and potentially mandatory running gear, how to fuel while training and racing, how to avoid overtraining injuries, race tactics, how to recover quickly after training and racing, how to prepare for race day and manage start line nerves, and finally what you can expect once you finish your trail marathon or 50k race. This isn’t your regular trail marathon or 50k training plan, this is my ultimate guide to smashing your a trail marathon or 50k race.

Although in this video I refer to running a trail marathon race distance, this trail marathon training plan and race guide also applies to training for a 50k ultra race. I train and plan for both races exactly the same way, because in reality there is only 8km / 5 miles difference between the two races, which in the context of a trail race this long doesn't make any difference to the focus and effort I put into training, nutrition, recovery and race tactics.
