But adult humans — almost not at all.

In this video, I explore why heart regeneration stops in adulthood, and how biology controls growth through a powerful system called the Hippo pathway.

You’ll also learn about a key protein called YAP, which acts like a switch for growth-related genes when it enters the nucleus. In adult hearts, this growth system is usually kept “locked.”

During my Master’s research, I explored a specific question:
Could reducing the serotonin transporter (SERT) influence the Hippo–YAP system and shift heart cell behavior?
