Australia expecting more Chinese display of power | 60 Minutes Australia

A Chinese flotilla detected in international waters near Australia in December last year sailed within 10 kilometres of our exclusive economic zone.

The Australian Defence Force chief Admiral David Johnston revealed the warship's proximity to our shores as it raised concerns about the Navy's ability to defend our eastern coastline, after another Chinese task group circumnavigated Australia and launched live-fire exercises in the Tasman Sea just 10 months prior.

In an interview with 60 Minutes in early 2025, Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Mark Hammond said they expect to see more Chinese military deployments as Beijing continues to show off its naval strength.
