N64 Joystick Permanent Fix And Maintenance (Non Tape Method)

DO NOT USE VASELINE AT ALL! use white lithium grease or some other kind of mechanical grease.

Ive been wanting to make this video for a long time but always forgot about it. Today Ill show you how to get your N64 controllers back to new and stay that way as well as preventative maintenance to keep your controller going strong for years to come.

Things you will need:

Tape: Any kind
Sandpaper: maybe a variety from rough to fine grit
A File
Grease: Anything is ok as long as it isnt sticky
2 part Epoxy or Plastic Glue, JB Weld etc, not a glue that sets up soft, a glue that sets up hard.
A Tooth Pick or Chopped Qtip
Some Tissue or A Qtip to remove the plastic powder
A Dremmel Tool or Fine Tip Drill Bit or a sharp thin knife
A Corner from a desk or table or a box

I have used this method for years and had great success with it. the controller lasts a long time and feels like close to or new. I have seen videos on the tape method which is a good temp fix but not perminant. give it a try for yourself and if done right, you can save your broken controller or save a few controllers from going in the trash :)

Keep in mind that this is a REPAIR not a REPLACEMENT. Replacing all of the parts or some of the parts is easy and Im sure that some people will say `just buy a new joystick` or `Just buy new parts etc. This is an inexpensive way to salvage your old controller without having to buy new parts for it.

I will also put annotations in the video but to also add to what I mentioned, if the 2 black cages/cradles with the gears on them inside the joystick are chewed up or worn down, you can use JB Weld on them as well to bring the shape back. once the glue is hardened, sand or file it down to a smooth texture as well, then put those back into place.

This video was intended for those who like to try to bring something broken and not working properly back to life again. Downloading an N64 emulator or playing games for the N64 on your Wii with a gamecube controller or DS or downloading the roms and playing them on a pc with a ps1 controller is not a way to fix something for those who may leave a comment like that, that is just a cheap way to play the games without using the actual hardware. This video is designed to help save/salvage the actual hardware :)

Also Note: This repair is not a simple 5 minute job. It will on average require you to let the parts/glue harden overnight in some cases. Patience is a virtue but if you wait it out, do it right and take your time you will have a joystick that lasts longer than time you spent to fix it for a long time
