Freight train slams into car, killing a driver

A driver was killed after the vehicle he was driving colliding with a freight train at a level crossing in southwestern Victoria. The accident happened around 7.40 am when the 20 something man was traveling north along Brown Street before being hit by an empty freight train at the crossing Allansford Railway Station. The west-bound train was heading to Warrnambool and the car was shunted 100 meters down the track from the initial point of impact. The driver was killed as he was trapped in the vehicle.
