Delhi HC Orders MCD Survey Around Jama Masjid After Old Delhi Demolition Drive Near Ramlila Maidan

The Delhi High Court has issued fresh directions to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) following the demolition drive near Ramlila Maidan in Old Delhi. The court has ordered the MCD to conduct a survey of constructions in and around the Jama Masjid area and remove any illegal encroachments, including buildings and stalls, if found unauthorised. The directions came while hearing a PIL alleging large-scale encroachment on public parks and open spaces under the MCD’s jurisdiction. The court has given the civic body two months to complete the survey and take action.
Meanwhile, the probe into clashes reported during the demolition drive at the Suttan Gate area has intensified. Delhi Police have registered an FIR and arrested five people so far. CCTV footage and videos are being scanned to identify more accused, while investigators are also examining whether the violence was part of a pre-planned conspiracy. Police are scrutinising social media activity, including specific hashtags and Instagram handles used to circulate videos and mobilise people.
