How and Why We Made A Chicken Dust Bath
Chickens love to dust bathe, it is an instinctive behavior and helps prevent pests. They are drawn to loose dirt, and sometimes will choose to dust bathe and dig where you don’t want them to. A dust bath may draw them away from the undesired space, especially if you keep part of it wet and cool during the warmer months of the year. We added a dust bath made of a fire pit ring, but you can also use tires, rocks, kiddie pools, woods stumps and more to make a perimeter for the chicken dust bath. Check out the photos of ideas and watch us create a dust bath in our run. (Of course, we could have used shovels but anytime my husband can use his backhoe we use it to save our backs and save time!)
