This is my review of the new Weeylite Ninja 10 5600K 120W LED light.
The review version was the Ninja 10 which is the fixed 5600K light but it is also available as the 10B which is a Bi-Colour light.
Viltrox provided the Combo 3 kit (minus the soft box) for review. The Combo kit adds the S1 handgrip and the WS-3 V-mount battery grip. This is useful if you want to use the light away from mains power points such as filming outdoors. With the light powered with the WS-3 the voltage available is 15v and o the total light output is reduced to about 70% of the rated output power of 120W. In reality this is about 1 F-stop reduction.
The light has a brightness adjustment from 1% to 100% in 1% increments when in the fan mode 3 setting which force cools the lamp. If you want to reduce the fan noise then setting the fan mode to 2 limits the light output to 80% to prevent overheating. If you want almost silent operation then fan mode 1 will reduce the light output to 50%.
Unfortunately at the moment there is an issue with the lamps in as much that the fan speed does not alter with the mode selection - even though the light output is limited the fan speed(noise) does not change. If the supply voltage is less than 22v (ie using a v-mount battery) the fan speed control works as it should. Viltrox advise me that the engineers are working on a fix. Hopefully this can be achieved by a firmware upgrade.
With a very useful 5000 Lux output at a distance of 1 metre without the reflector and 33000 Lux (my measurement) with the reflector fitted it can be used in a variety of lighting set ups.
The light has 6 FX modes which may be of use to some users. The Ninja 10b has 10 FX modes as it has the candle flame and fire modes.
