Steven revealed that Tommy Shelby's fate in The Immortal Man was part of his plan #peakyblinders

With Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man now streaming on Netflix (as of March 20, 2026), creator Steven Knight has addressed the film’s devastating conclusion. In a series of post-release interviews with The Playlist and Final Draft, Knight revealed that the fate of Tommy Shelby—the man who cheated death for six seasons—was not a recent decision made for the movie, but a narrative "north star" he has held since the show's very first season in 2013.

"Bizarrely, at the end of the first series when it was just a little thing on BBC Two, I did an interview and I said I'm going to take this all the way to the Second World War and end it with a movie," Knight said. "Tommy Shelby don't retire. He was never going to buy a cottage in the Cotswolds."
