INGRID BERGMAN'S 3 DAUGHTERS ON LARRY KING LIVE, 2003

Description: Ingrid and Isabella Rossellini (fraternal twins), and Pia Lindstrom discuss their mother with much affection. Ingrid also had a son, Robertino Rossellini. I think it is so interesting that even though Ingrid and Isabella look very different, they both look very much like their mother. I believe this show took place anywhere from 2002 to 2010 - if anyone knows the year, please let me know and I will add it. Thanks. (UPDATE: the date is 2002, thanks londonuser111.)

Rafael Storm:
Since when is the other twin called "Ingrid"? She was named Isotta. Anybody know?

My reply:
+Rafael Storm / Wikipedia says that Ingrid had twin daughters named Isabella and Isotta Ingrid Rossellini. I have many newspaper and magazine clippings and articles about Ingrid and her children. In these Isotta is referred to interchangeably as Isotta and Ingrid (called Isotta more often when she was younger). The only reference I could find concerning the reason for this is in an article from 1976 showing a photo of Ingrid with her daughter Isotta and son Robertino. It says "Ingrid Bergman, 60, in Rome with her daughter Isotta, 24, (called Ingrid by her friends) and son Robertino, 26". Then, in the article itself Isotta is referred to as Ingrid!

Rafael Storm
Thanks. I always heard her referred to by her real name, Isotta.

There was a law in Italy which prevented a child having the same first name as a parent, so the first name Isotta was given to the twin and second name Ingrid. But she was always known as young Ingrid.

Looking back nearly thirteen years at this, I'm frustrated that Mr. King couldn't find enough character in his personality to get past the personal circumstances of this family, and instead focus on the enormous level of creativity and talent of both Ingrid and Roberto. He continually hounds all three daughters about the same subject; "Scandal" and controversy. I admire the daughters for putting up with the usual Hollywood bullshit. Bless them. Ingrid Bergman was so much more than "Casablanca"; and so much more human and delicate, individual and real, than any Hollywood introvert can imagine. Art is full of such beauty; but the business behind it all, is so foul and narcissistic it makes a regular human-being vomit. When I saw these three sisters, all I could think of, was their lives, and their feelings, and their turmoil; Ingrid the actress became an afterthought. There's more to life, than celluloid heroes.......

Good to see Ingrid's three daughters interviewed together, but I'd have liked her son Robertino to be there too. I think he lives in Monaco and have a feeling her prefers Europe [especially Italy] to America. Perhaps that's understandable. He was fiercely loyal to his mother in a different way from the way the girls felt. Also, Roberto Rossellini himself said he would never set foot in America again - he visited Ingrid and Dr Lindstrom once in Los Angeles. But I think he did go back there to make an art film in Texas much later - not sure about this.

Wow! They are so Swedish!! They really inherited the coolness and imperturbability from their Swedish heritage.

This IS rare, thx for posting! I had no idea that Pia did things on tv in America hmm... I'm also a little tiny bit obsessed with Isabela so... you know... since you did such a good job on this one... :-)

+ellamae And what they get up to now, is that not inexcusable too? It seems not - actresses have babies by a variety of men and don't' bother to get married. Ingrid was just too naive and honest - she went to Italy to make a film with Rossellini and was so in love with him that the world didn't matter. They had a beautiful son; she could have had an abortion, but no, she chose LIFE for her child. By the way, the film "Stromboli" was mostly seen by voyeurs who didn't understand its relevance to film art. It is a great film with an eternal message. Well done Bergman and Rossellini!

You are so right. What Ingrid Bergman did (ditch her child and loving husband for a man in another country) was disgusting. It was right that she was condemned for it. How could she just give up seeing her little girl like that? This is not something a good, caring parent does. Cold, selfish woman, IMO. But, because she was a glamorous actress, people still worship her. If a father or mother ditches his/her family, they deserve to be shamed. If I were Pia, I don't think I'd have been so understanding. That kind of thing can hurt you and leave lasting scars. I'm glad Pia's dad lived a long and happy life.
