Queen Of The Sea - Primo Scala's Accordeon Band -1936

PRIMO SCALA'S ACCORDEON BAND

Queen Of The Sea - Vocalist: Gerry Fitzgerald

Recorded in London in 1936

"Queen of the Sea" was written by Horatio Nicholls, the pen name of music publisher Lawrence Wright, to celebrate the new Cunard liner, the RMS Queen Mary. The ship set off on its maiden voyage on 27th May 1936, and its journey across the Atlantic was a big news event. As you will hear, the liner was a symbol of national pride as Britain was starting to recover from the depression years. Indeed the ship was almost not completed as funds had run out. Therefore its maiden voyage was considered an achievement, hence the "sales pitch" for all things British on this recording.

This, as far as I know, was the only commercial recording of this song ever made (unless you know differently). I have already uploaded the private recording made by the composer and the version by Bram Martin's Dance Orchestra, circulated to passengers as a souvenir of the first sailing.
