F16 Maverick Boresight - AGM65 IN AIR boresight method for 2023 - DCS in 3 or less
This F16 Maverick Boresight technique is an IN-AIR technique that can save you time by boresighting your missiles en-route.
A few viewers of my F16 Maverick Targeting Pod video asked about boresighting the Maverick. This is necessary when starting hot or cold from the ground, and ensures that the TGP and the maverick seeker head are pointing in the same direction.
Most guides explain how to boresight your Mavericks on the ground, and this can be the easier technique, but it can be time consuming as you have to sit on the ground while the missile powers itself on. In the right environment and with a little planning, however, it's perfectly possible to align the missiles while en-route.
There are some caveats, however. You need to pass over a suitable building to boresight against, and this needs to be well before your target area but at least 5 minutes after take-off. The building also needs to be big and distinctive enough to recognize and lock up in both the TGP and Maverick cameras from around 7 miles.
If you can pull it off though, it's a big time saver. Less time on the ground means more time moving mud! So let's jump in the cockpit and try it out!
