A prophet is someone who speaks on behalf of God. In the Bible, A prophet sometimes speaks for God and sometimes speaks for the people of God to which he or she belongs. A prophet may see visions and pray for you.
The primary task of the prophet is to forth-tell God’s word to God’s people in times of moral or national crisis.
God sometimes reveals the future to the prophets.
prophets don’t just predict the future, they help to shape it.

Deuteronomy 18:18 ESV
I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him

John 6:14 ESV
When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!”
