Car insurance startup Guevara is the winner of Wired Money's 2014 startup pitch competition.

The business, whose branding borrows heavily from the revolutionary image of Che Guevara, provides peer-to-peer car insurance and claims to be able to reduce premiums by between 50-80 percent.

"Guevara users club together, share the risk and cut out the middleman. The group insure themselves," explained Guevara founder Kim Miller, presenting from the main stage of Wired Money on 1 July.

Wired Money is a one-day summit that explores the future of finance. The event was launched in recognition of the fact that financial services -- from online payments to transferring money -- are broken. And where a problem exists, so entrepreneurs step in to create efficiencies. Wired Money brings together the new breed of startups taking on the incumbents and the bold thinkers rewriting the rules of money -- from digital currencies and online reputation to mobile money and digital wallets.
