Corns are hard growths over the sole of feet which makes it troublesome to walk and painful when you step your feet on the ground. These are multiple sometimes which causes pain and swelling and may get infected . This has to be treated by application of salicylic acid 16% which is available as application. This has to applied daily night over a period of 1 to 2 months. As you do it gradually they will smoothen out. If they are not going, we have to do excision of corn. This has to be done under local anesthesia of the affected area and we are going to scoop out the part of the corn along with part of the skin. The skin will regrow in this area over a period of 10 days. There can be discomfort into area for a period of 1 to 2 days post procedure . But you can be able to walk with dressing for 1 to 2 days . Post care medications will be required. We are able to remove this with lasers without much downtime and recovery is good. Corns may also mimic warts. Corns and warts are different. Warts are basically viral infection and they spread fast and they are infectious and spread from person to person. Corns are not infectious. They are mostly single and they may be present for a long time. But warts are very rapidly spreading. This is how we differentiate and corn removal is a very simple procedure.
