A revolution in ostomy device design - StomaLife

StomaLife is a small innovative medical device that aims to replace the need for a colostomy bag,
enabling patients to live a near normal healthy active life, with no messy bags to change.

StomaLife is a break-through medical
device in the form of a discrete stoma
plug with an innovative valve closing
system that replaces the need for
messy and unsightly colostomy bags in
patients who have had bowel surgery.
Stomalife utilises a magnetic implant in
order to provide a reliable and concealed
mechanism which prevents leakage and
maintains an infection free site. It will
improve the quality of life for ostomy
patients by providing continence,
restoring freedom, dignity and the ability
to lead a normal active lifestyle.

The device consists of three functional
components:
1) C ontrol component with a unique
valve system that provides
continence, controlled flow of waste
material, and controlled release
of gas;
2) I mplantable magnetic component that
provides stability to the stoma site and
helps avoid stoma complications; and
3) R etention component that provides
non-adhesive fixation of the StomaLife
device to the stoma site.

The valve allows the patient to release
gas and faeces as and when required.
To pass faeces, the patient simply
attaches a tube to the device and opens
the valve and the faeces can be released
into a toilet bowl and flushed away as
normal. StomaLife does away with the
need for messy and unsightly stoma
bags. Enabling the patient to live a
normal and bag free life.
