Chapter 1: ESC Guidelines for Atrial Fibrillation
Prof. Carina Blomström-Lundqvist showcases the major changes in the ESC guidelines for Atrial Fibrillation in 2016. These changes include opportunistic screening for AF, rhythm and rate control therapies, the classification of AF as well as AF Symptoms using the new EHRA score. She describes the symptomatic patients who qualify for catheter ablation including those with heart failure. The panel (C. Blomström-Lundqvist, G.Hindricks and W.Davies) discuss the current challenges that are facing cardiologists in treating AF patients especially as it relates to obesity and understanding if a patient has true symptoms stemming from this arrhythmia.
