WORKHORSE VACUUM BEFORE CARPET CLEANING

This carpet cleaning job was a good test of the Cleartrak Workhorse vacuum cleaner. I have been looking at the Cleartrak Workhorse vacuum for a while to decide whether or not it would be the right vacuum cleaner to replace my Sanitaire SC679J which I have been very happy with. When I decided to change my primary method of carpet cleaning from steam cleaning to vlm using the Challenger OP machine, I knew dry soil removal was a very important aspect that needed to be addressed. The Sanitaire is no slouch when it comes to dry soil removal, but if the Workhorse vacuum would remove even just a little more dry soil, it would be worth it. Now that I've used the Workhorse vacuum on several jobs, I can say that I am very pleased with it. The brush roll is aggressive, without being over aggressive and the suction is very good. It does a great job of picking up the very fine dry soil that other vacuum cleaners often miss. There are two issues that you need to know if you are considering purchasing one. First, they are a heavy vacuum. Especially if you are moving from a fairly light vacuum such as the Sanitaire, Powr-Flite, etc. I think this increased weight actually aids the vacuum in being to remove more soil than one of its lighter counterparts. Don't get me wrong, it's heavy, but it's not "too heavy". Second, it does not vacuum edges along walls very well, but fortunately, the Workhorse has an on board hose to address that issue. It will require a little extra work on your part to get along walls, but in my opinion, it's worth it considering how well the Cleartrak Workhorse picks up soil. Now that I've used it several times, would I say it works better than my Sanitaire vacuum that I've been very happy with? The long answer is, I believe the Sanitaire is very adequate for dry soil removal both for regular vacuuming and for pre-vacuuming prior to carpet cleaning. At this point, I believe the Workhorse vacuum does have a couple advantages. One, it seems to pick up more fine, deeply embedded soils from the carpet. Second, the clear dirt cup has the advantage of not only letting you visibly see the soil that is being removed, but you can spend as much time as needed on an area until you see no more soil being vacuumed up. So yes, as of now I am preferring the Workhorse vacuum, but time will tell if it will stay at that top spot, or if the Sanitaire will make a resurgence.
