Great Horned Owl Rescue

Saving wildlife is important (especially raptors and saving the balance in nature) and Fun! What a good feeling it is to help something and have it turn out well.

This is a Great Horned Owl. He appeared in our crabapple tree one morning and disappeared that afternoon. The next day he was behind the garage on the woodpile. Later that afternoon he moved to the arena and ravens came and were pestering him. That's when my husband knew to call the wildlife rescue. My husband caught him and the volunteers got him to the wildlife center.

He was there for 2 months to gain weight, and heal an injured toe.

He was emaciated and had to be tube fed at first. Next they put him in bigger and bigger cages to slowly develop his muscles back. They told me he could return home once his toe healed, able to fly, and perch.

He needed to be returned as he is an adult and they are territorial. (If he were a juvenile he could have been released somewhere else.) We are ecstatic to have him home!

What joy to watch him look and feel better and fly back to freedom.
