Why the Netherlands have a biking culture (and other countries don't)

The Netherlands are full of bikes. In fact there are more bicycles in the Netherlands than residents - and in huge cities like Groningen, Utrecht or Amsterdam up to 70% of all journeys are made by bike. While in other countries like Germany riding a bike is always some kind of a life-and-death-experience, the Dutch created a casual biking culture with a vast network of clearly marked and huge cycle paths. But how? Let's find out.
