Steppin' Out (I'm Gonna Boogie Tonight) - Tony Orlando & Dawn 1973 *Hi FIDELITY*

PLEASE "LIKE" AND COMMENT!

From the fabulous (and criminally under-rated) LP "Dawn's New Ragtime Follies featuring Tony Orlando". I was eight years old in 1973, and as I had yet to discover real rock and roll, for my money there was no one alive who was cooler than Tony Orlando. Here's Tony, Joyce & Telma singing their hit single "Steppin' Out" on their TV variety show in 1973, the video of which I have synced with the studio recording of the song. The performance on-air was slightly faster than the record, and the key of the music was a whole step lower. I used slow-motion and pitch correction to get it all to line up well. I also felt it would be fun to include the original animated sequence from the TV show for the intro (note the yellow ribbon tying itself 'round the old oak tree!). The cartoon clarinet solo sequence is from Terrytoon's 1947 cartoon "The Hep Cat". Enjoy this sentimental journey!

I DO NOT OWN OR CLAIM ANY COPYRIGHT ON THIS MATERIAL. It is an honor and a privilege to be allowed to share this video on youtube, and I hope it gets to stay here forever.
"If anyone doubts the creativity and huge collection of talent that made up the Dawn phenomenon, this stylish and classy album is Exhibit A that this artist and crew had much more depth than what critics of the day may have thought. Sure, Tony Orlando & Dawn played to an audience that was the antithesis of those who were embracing Mott the Hoople, Lou Reed, and David Bowie at this point in time, but that doesn't mean there wasn't something very special going on here. Historically speaking, New Ragtime Follies deserves attention for its ambitious and fully realized craftsmanship." -- Allmusic.com

No, I'm not upset, I'm not, lots of people get married
Please I'm in a hurry,
won't you straighten my tie - I'll get by

She was something else, she was, now she's gonna get married
She's got herself carried off by somebody new
What can I do?

Don't worry 'bout me Ma, I'll be alright
I'm steppin' out, I'm gonna boogie tonight
Dancing and singing
Love songs 'til the dawn's early light
Oh, I'm stepping out, I'm gonna boogie tonight

Yes, I must admit we did, we looked so good together
Thought it would last forever
but I'm a dreamer at heart -- Dreams fall apart

Tell me where's my shoes, my groovy shoes
Enough about Diana, oh my sweet Diana
She's getting married today

Don't worry 'bout me Ma, I'll be alright
I'm steppin' out, I'm gonna boogie tonight
Dancing and singing
Love songs 'til the dawn's early light
Oh, I'm stepping out, I'm gonna boogie tonight

Warm and tender tender lips that lied, and told me that she loved me
I'm just catching cold, Ma
These aren't tears in my eyes

So don't worry 'bout me Ma, I'll be alright
See, I'm steppin' out, I'm gonna boogie tonight
Dancing and singing
Love songs 'til the dawn's early light
Oh, I'm stepping out, Ma, I'm gonna boogie tonight
