His parchment leaves, his
Confident lines and strong edges.

Not a redbud or a motherly
Catalpa, heart-shaped and
blossoming.

Or a band of aspens leaning and
Twittering in groups.

Or a pine spreading
Her soft quilts of fragrant light
At your feet.

Do you compare the Shakti oak
Dancing in the prairies to the
Willow fishing in the water?

No, I’m sure you don’t.
You let each one have its magic.

Be like the tree.

If you must fill your eyes with images,
Then make sugar out of sunlight;
Be rooted where you are,
And breathe into your own
Perfection.
