Kimberly Keyes Stark's Exhibit, Artomatic 2012, Crystal City, Virginia

This is a promotional video for my exhibition at Artomatic, which will be held in Crystal City, Virginia from May 18-June 23, 2012.

My exhibit is called "Occupy the Dollhouse" and it's a series of photographs using dolls as they organize their own Occupy movement as the 99% and protest the excesses of the 1%. The photos are based on my own observations of Occupy Baltimore and the two Occupy movements in Washington, DC. I visited the three Occupy sites in person at various times throughout the fall and spring,

I was inspired to use dolls to re-enact the Occupy movement after I discovered the Facebook group Occupy Lego Land, which uses Legos to depict various events in the Occupy movement.

When depicting the Occupy movement using dolls I tried to be as respectful to the Occupy movement as much as possible. Everything that is in the photographs is based on what happened in real life.

In this exhibit I tried to reflect the DIY aesthetic of the Occupy movement. Instead of using frames and mattboards, I hung my pictures directly on the wall in the same way that various flyers at the Occupy sites were posted on the sides of tents or portable boards. On the upside, the prices of these prints are lower compared to other Artomatic exhibits.
