Jetters NorthWest -- Jetting Hose Size Choices: 3/8" I.D. Jet-Hose vs. 1/2" I.D.
Steve "Jonesie" Jones covers correct application of 3/8" and 1/2" Jetting Hoses to minimize pressure-drop (aka "friction-loss") -- especially for jetters between 6-GPM and 18-GPM flow-rate. Jones also addresses the "myth" that a jetter will create more GPM if the hose-size is increased.
Increasing your hose-size will not make the Jetter's pump put out more GPM/lpm flow -- BUT if you think your jetter is "choking" back water-flow then you should look in the tank to see if some water-flow is being "bypassed" back to the jetter's Water-Tank while jetting under pressure -- if yes then you likely just need a higher flow NOZZLE which can will allow that bypassed water to actually get through the Nozzle and into the pipe for cleaning! Typically it is "undersized" Nozzle-Orifices that causes lower-GPM because the jetter can't force all of its water-flow thru the undersized Nozzle, so the jetter has no choice but to "bypass" the surplus water-flow. The exception is when you are using a "mini-hose" such as a 1/4"(.25"), 3/16"(.19"), 1/8"(.13") -- hoses smaller in diameter than the jetter's standard hose.
