FIX PS3 Won't Read Disc: Fix Your PS3 Laser - Step-by-Step Instructions

Also, there are a lot of people asking the same questions, check the comments, you may find your answer. Also, I don't perform the fix for people, sorry.

NOTE: For those looking to try this fix, you may want to do the disassembly first and ensure which laser assembly your machine requires. I have posted charts, but they may not be accurate for every unit. So before you buy a replacement laser, verify which one you have and order based on that. GOOD LUCK!

This is a how-to video on replacing your Playstation 3 laser assembly from start to finish. This video is not for those techies that can look at short list of instructions and complete the task. This video is for those who may not be quite comfortable cracking open their PS3 to perform surgery.

Again, this is a step-by-step video that takes you through the whole process, including putting all back together.

I would only perform this operation if your PS3 isn't reading any disks. But even then, there are some options to try first. Here are some things to search for before replacing your laser.

1. Restore - Option 3
2. Warranty Repair
3. Factory reset
4. Auto Play Disk procedure
5. Try other games, old and new (if it won't read games)
6. A recent update from a game or PSN may have messed you up, you can wait until another one comes out and maybe it will fix it. Some have reported waiting and it just magically repaired itself.
7. Finally, replace the laser if it's not reading any disks (CD, DVD, Bluray), but with this option, be careful taking things apart, there are some small wires that could break. Also, be careful with the ribbon cable latches... especially the one that's attached under the disk drive to the main unit, that one doesn't open up all the way like some of the others, and you can snap it off easy.

NOTE: There have been many reports of replacements going bad very quickly. So even if you get this to work, it may fail within a short time, or not work at all. So please weigh the costs of doing this procedure (or doing it multiple times for multiple failed lasers) vs buying a new unit.
