Quarantunes #26 with The Mavericks 🎶 Sinners and Saints

For today’s Quarantunes, we’d like to pay tribute to one of the great composers of our lifetime...@EnnioMorricone. You’ve heard his music in countless movies. Fistful of Dollars, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, The Mission, Once Upon a Time in America...just to name a few. In 2016 he won an Academy Award for his score of Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight”, making him one of Hollywood’s most successful and prolific composers.

I remember spending one weekend in particular listening to several scores that Morricone had written. And I remember loving the different movements within the songs. Upon further listening, I noticed that they really were not different movements at all...just a slight variation on the original theme, designed to heighten intensity or the emotion of the scene.

Anyways, I wrote this song after that fateful weekend. I knew it wasn’t going to be the type of song with a verse, a chorus, etc...I wanted a solo trumpet intro, then I’d bring in the band for a musical feature with trumpet leading into a vocal, followed by guitar instrumental, another verse, and big arranged instrumental finish. I had it mapped out like a score. And that’s how we’ve treated it ever since. Here’s @TheMavericks, with ‘Sinners and Saints’…RM 🎸
