Drum Room Mics - How to Get MORE Drums, and LESS Cymbals

Drum room mics are often overwhelmed with the sound of loud cymbals, and in this episode we talk about how to best reduce the cymbals in the drum room mics.

The first experiment I tried was a barrier, which is just a shield for the microphone so that the sound has to go around it. The idea is that it will reduce some of the high frequencies and let the sound of the drums be louder in that mic.

In my tests, it really didn't work, so I went to another method of reducing the cymbals in the drum room mic. Instead of using a shield for the mic, we can use the height of the mic to change how the mic captures the blend of drums and cymbals.
