MATLAB for Engineers - Scalars, Vectors, and Matrices: What's the Difference?
Have you ever wondered what the difference between a scalar and a vector is? If you thought the answer was "direction" then this video is for you.
In this video, I'll introduce you to MATLAB's definitions of scalars, vectors, and matrices. Understanding MATLAB's definitions for classifying variables is important because they differ from what you may encounter in an introductory-level physics course. In addition, a clear understanding of terminology is important when communicating with other engineers and commenting in a program.
First, we'll take a look at how MATLAB defines scalars, vectors, and matrices. Then, I'll introduce you to some useful functions in MATLAB to determine the size, number of dimensions, and classification of a variable. Finally, we'll take a look at some interesting ramifications of MATLAB's definitions.
MATLAB functions: size, ndims, isscalar, isvector, isrow, iscolumn, ismatrix
