Music. Conversation. Connection. Healing.

Welcome to my weekly live-stream! Each week, you’ll see raw, unedited conversations with my fellow artists and live performances too! Join us as we take a peek behind the curtain and discuss the nuances of life as an artist along this uncharted transition from pandemic to, well, whatever lies ahead. There'll be lots of music, performances and real-time interaction with YOU! My goal is to create space for connection, inspiration and remind us that we are not alone.

Be sure to SUBSCRIBE to my YT channel here so you’ll always know when I’m about to go live and if you enjoy a show, please “like” and/or “share!”

ARTISTS: THE WORLD’S “SECOND RESPONDERS”

Throughout history, after the initial and often immediate response by incredible and often life-saving first responders and essential workers, it is the artists among us who are called upon or volunteer to ease the pain and trauma of a national crisis or global emergency. Whether it is a star-studded concert or a small local performance, an art exhibit or a dance piece, a poetry slam or a new play or simply one musician performing a song off-camera to someone in need, artists have always been there to offer healing and remind us what we have in common.

Life has certainly changed for us all since the beginning of 2020 (with no shortage of trauma and pain) and for artists, the journey has been particularly unique. Many, despite any personal or professional obstacles, adapted quickly to an “online” way of life and have actually been thriving under these new conditions. These artists responded immediately to the sudden and inevitable craving to create and consume the performing arts - by any “virtual” means necessary. Many, however, have had a different experience altogether.

My own journey, from performing live and launching a brand new Jazz club (ROOM 623) to remote recording sessions, a rekindled voiceover career to now hosting a weekly live stream was anything but a straight shot. It took time, patience and compassion.

Who has reinvented themselves and how? Have we come far enough to start planning for life after the COVID pandemic? If so, what will fade away and what will remain? How will we all hold space for each other to emerge from over 15 months of isolation at our own pace? How has the combination of America’s sudden awareness of a 400 year old racial pandemic and the COVID pandemic affected artists? We’ll explore the dynamics of obligation vs opportunity in a new world of live-streaming, remote teaching and virtual connection.

As our collective conscience continues to collide with convenience, we find ourselves in the middle of a great opportunity to fully see one another and LISTEN.

Brenda Earle Stokes
Brenda Earle Stokes is a rare jazz artist with a true command of both the piano and the voice. As a follow-up to her critically acclaimed 2014 studio album Right About Now, Stokes sought to challenge herself to dig deep and share the full scope of her talents in the most intimate setting possible. In her latest album Solo Sessions Volume 1, Brenda explores the rarely-recorded format of solo piano/voice, showcasing her mesmerizing fluidity as both singer and pianist.
